Building a Field Around Microbial Inheritance

Ahmed Abdelfattah (Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy)

Abstract:

Researcher Spotlight is a seminar series highlighting the career paths, experiences, and insights of scientists working in the field of seed microbiomes. Each session features a researcher sharing their journey, challenges, and perspectives on building a career in microbial ecology, providing inspiration and guidance for early-career scientists and peers alike.

About the presenter:

Ahmed Abdelfattah is a microbiologist focused on microbial inheritance in plants, particularly seed-associated microbiomes. He leads the Microbiome Management group at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB), where his work combines experimental systems, multi-omics, and evolutionary perspectives to understand how microbes move from one plant generation to the next. He is the founder and Chair of SeedCon, the first international conference dedicated to seed microbiome research, and has published widely on plant–microbe interactions, fruit and seed microbiomes, and microbiome-driven plant resilience.
